Heat pumps need to go into millions of homes
We build the software heat pump installers run their business on. We’re a team of 26, split evenly between London and Bristol, and we’re growing quickly. If you’re fed up of moving slowly or not making a tangible impact on the world, it’s time to change that – come and join us.
WHY SPRUCE EXISTS
We have to electrify the heating of homes – and the world just isn’t moving quickly enough.
Right now we build tools for ambitious heat pump installers - we want to make mass heat pump adoption an inevitability.
Why heat pumps. Almost 20% of UK carbon emissions come from heating homes. The only realistic solution is a heat pump – capable of turning 1kW of electricity into 3–5kW of heat. We need millions of them installed in the next decade and it’s not happening fast enough.
Why installers. The people doing this work are mostly small business owners – plumbers and heating engineers turned entrepreneurs, learning new technology while making sales and training apprentices. They are the ones actually putting heat pumps in homes. Every country's Net Zero goals live or die on whether enough of them succeed.
Why software. Installations themselves aren’t the bottleneck; the admin around them is. Spreadsheets. Word docs. Survey data that needs manual processing in the office. Quotes that take a week turn around. Compliance paperwork. Our job is to take the admin off installers’ plates so they can do more of what matters. Today, over 700 installers run their businesses on Spruce – we've already halved the time they spend on each job and doubled their sales conversion rates.
Why us. We believe we're a rare combination – a high-growth company building something that genuinely matters. We’re hiring the very best people who want to go super fast and make a serious dent on the world’s emissions. There's a small window to build the default tool the entire industry runs on.
What’s next. We love heat pumps - but we’re not stopping there. We’re building Spruce to be the all-in-one platform to run any home installation business. If you can picture a combination of ServiceTitan, Procore, and AutoCAD, you’ll get a sense of where we’re headed.

How we work
Our success is entirely downstream of excellent people
We spend a lot of time searching and selecting for exceptional people. We’re looking for brilliance in all its forms, from a whole wide range of backgrounds. And we put a huge amount of care into helping everyone be the best possible version of themselves. Most of us have never worked on a team this good. And that’s a real joy to be part of.
We work for installers
The product exists to make installers' lives easier and their businesses better. Every roadmap argument settles back to: does this help the people doing the actual work? Everyone at Spruce spends time on-site with installers – feeling the pain points first-hand and shipping solutions based on insights and feedback, not assumptions.
Bias for action
We feel real urgency to make an impact. We’ve designed the company to allow every individual to go as fast as possible – we give everyone the responsibility, agency, and support to drive outcomes that matter for our customers. Building quickly means we’ll all make mistakes – that’s never an issue. When things break, we focus on how we fix it and what we can all learn for next time.
Feedback is constant, direct, and kind
We'll tell you when something isn't working and expect the same honesty (and empathy) back. We expect everyone to challenge everything, ask "why?" multiple levels deep, and push back when something doesn't make sense.
Hard, fulfilling work
Working at Spruce isn't easy. It's intense, fast-paced, and incredibly rewarding. But we also don't believe that a 996 hustle culture breeds long-term success. We index hard for exceptional people, and want them to still be able to maintain a family, look after elderly parents, and have proper rest and downtime. Most jobs will be easier, but we'd challenge you to find one where you'll grow faster or have as much fun.
